The Downtown Youth Centre Emergency Shelter provides low-barrier, temporary overnight shelter for youth ages 13–18 experiencing homelessness or housing instability, while also offering support and connection to services for youth up to age 24 on an exemption and as needed basis.
A strong emphasis is placed on shelter diversion, where staff work closely with youth and their families or natural supports to explore safe alternatives to shelter, such as reunification or placement with trusted caregivers, before considering overnight stays.
As part of an integrated service model, the shelter connects youth to wrap-around supports, including life skills, housing assistance, and community resources, helping them move toward safe, stable, and sustainable housing.
